I like to reward my horses for the good work that they do. This doesn't just make both of us feel good, it also increases the chances that they will offer that good work again. And from a training point of view, that's good news. I can highlight the moment with a clicker, and tell my horse she's just got the right answer. The reward that will follow motivates her to give me that response again.
I want my horses to not be afraid of trying out answers. I want them to actively offer me behaviour. So I won't punish them for incorrect responses, I'll just look for a response I do like, and reinforce it.
My horses love to work. When I go to the field, they all come over to see me. Clicker training develops a "pick me" attitude, and they all want to be the one to work.
